The best apps for couples, by what you need

Apps for couples to plan, split money and stay close, compared honestly. Find one planner for chores and calendars, one for money if you need it, and one for connection.

Free for both of you Pro is $9.99/month.

The short answer

There is no single best app for couples, because couples use apps for four different jobs: planning a shared life, handling money, staying connected and working on the relationship. Pick one app per job you actually have, starting with planning, since that is where the daily friction usually lives. For planning between two adults, Tiptoe is our pick.

  • Plan the shared life: Tiptoe for owners and a weekly check-in, Cupla for a calendar-first planner, Cozi for families with kids.
  • Money: Splitwise to split costs, Honeydue to see accounts together. Tiptoe does not do money.
  • Connection: Paired or Agapé for daily questions, Between for a private space for two.
  • Guided program: Lasting for structured self-guided lessons. For real problems, a licensed therapist.

Disclosure: Tiptoe makes one of these apps, and this page is written by its founder. We list Tiptoe first in planning because it is built around who owns each job for two people. For money, connection and guided programs we recommend other apps, because Tiptoe does not try to do those jobs.

How we chose

We wrote this for the partner who ends up as the household’s project manager: the one who knows when the car is due, what is in the fridge and whose birthday is next week. Apps that add another inbox for that person do not help. Apps that move a job to a clear owner, or make it easier to talk, do. For each app we asked:

  1. What job does it do, and does it do that one job well?
  2. How do two people share it, and does one subscription cover both of you?
  3. What does it cost for two, based on published prices?
  4. What does it ask for, such as bank accounts or location?
  5. Does it keep score between partners, or keep the focus on the shared work?

Every competitor fact comes from the app’s own website, help center or official App Store listing, checked on September 30, 2026, with links in each entry. Many couples apps list several in-app prices without saying which plan is which. In those cases we write “see site” rather than guess. We did not use star ratings or download counts, and we did not rank apps against each other across different jobs.

Planning apps

A planning app is where the shared to-dos, chores, lists and calendar live. If you only install one couples app, make it this one, because this is the work that happens every day whether you talk about it or not.

Tiptoe

Tiptoe is a couples planner: one shared record of who owns what, what is coming up, what you decided and what is worth a thank-you. Home shows open and overdue tasks first, what you two handled today, and the next check-in. Tasks holds shared tasks with an owner, due date, notes and repeat, plus chores with one owner each and shared lists. Calendar shows both of your plans, key dates and dated tasks. Check-in is a weekly conversation at a time you choose, where topics you added during the week get talked through and next steps become tasks. Us holds thank-yous, Thinking of You, partner profiles with private gift ideas, and insights on completed work by person.

Tiptoe does not link bank accounts or track location, and it does not do budgets or bill splitting. Your free account includes your first 30 tasks and chores, and Insights and check-in history are part of Pro. There is no native Android app; the web app works in any browser.

Tiptoe on iPhone: Home, with open tasks for you and Sam side by side, what you both got done this week, overdue tasks, and what was handled today with a Thanks button.
Good for
Couples who want one shared place for who owns what, what is coming up and what you decided.
Not for
Couples looking for daily questions or a money tracker.
Cost for two
Free for both of you. Pro is $9.99/month. No card needed. Your first 30 tasks and chores are free.

Cupla

Cupla is a strong calendar-first alternative. It merges the calendars already on your phones and adds key dates, shared to-dos, grocery lists, chores and a date planner. It also has a free plan. It is the better choice if your main problem is seeing each other’s schedules. For a head-to-head, read Tiptoe vs Cupla.

Good for
Couples whose main need is seeing both calendars in one place, with lists on the side.
Not for
Couples who want a structured weekly conversation about the household.
Cost for two
Free plan with limits on how far ahead you see your partner's plans. Cupla says Premium is one subscription per couple. The App Store lists several prices, so see site.

Cozi

Cozi is built for families. Everyone shares one account and one color-coded calendar, plus shopping and to-do lists. If you have kids and the calendar is the center of your week, it is a sensible choice. For two adults, its family structure can be more than you need, and its to-do lists do not give chores owners or repeats.

Good for
Families who need one calendar and shared lists that everyone, kids included, can check.
Not for
Two adults who want owners and repeats on household jobs.
Cost for two
Free with ads. Cozi Gold is $39 a year and Cozi says one upgrade covers everyone in the family.

Money apps

Money apps fall into two groups: ones that split costs between separate wallets, and ones that show shared accounts in one place. Tiptoe does neither, on purpose, so here is what we would use instead. Our guide to money conversations for couples covers how to choose a model before you choose an app.

Splitwise

Splitwise keeps a running tally of shared expenses and who owes whom. Its own home page pitches it for sharing expenses with your partner. It suits couples who keep separate accounts and split rent, groceries and trips. The free plan has a daily expense limit and ads, and Pro adds features such as transaction import in some countries.

Good for
Couples who keep separate accounts and want a running, fair tally of shared costs.
Not for
Couples who have merged their money, or who want a budget.
Cost for two
Free with ads and a limit of 4 expenses a day. Splitwise says one of its annual Pro plans can be used by two people. Prices are shown in the app, so see site.

Honeydue

Honeydue shows balances, bills and budgets for both partners in one app, with in-app chat about spending. You link your bank accounts, and each partner chooses how much to share. It is free, with optional tips. It suits couples who want visibility across accounts, merged or not.

Good for
Couples who want to see accounts, bills and budgets together, with control over what each person shares.
Not for
Anyone who does not want to link bank accounts to an app.
Cost for two
Free to use. The App Store lists optional monthly tips.

Connection and question apps

Connection apps give you something to talk about that is not the dishwasher. They work best as a small daily habit next to a planner, not instead of one.

Paired

Paired offers daily questions, quizzes and games for two. Premium bought by one partner is shared with the other, which keeps the cost to one subscription. It is a good fit if you want a quick daily prompt and enjoy seeing each other’s answers.

Good for
Couples who want a light daily prompt to talk about something other than logistics.
Not for
Getting the household organized. It is about connection, not chores.
Cost for two
Free tier. Paired says that if one partner buys Premium, the other partner gets it too once you are paired. The App Store lists several plan prices, so see site.

Checked September 30, 2026: paired.com, Paired support.

Agapé

Agapé sends one relationship question a day, and in its connect questions your answers are shared with your partner. It is free to use, with premium categories available. It is the simplest way to try a daily question habit without paying.

Good for
Couples who want a free, simple daily question, including when apart.
Not for
Couples who want any planning features.
Cost for two
Agapé says it is free to download and use, with premium question categories by subscription. The App Store lists several prices, so see site.

Checked September 30, 2026: getdailyagape.com/faq.

Between

Between is a private chat and memory space for two: messages, shared photos and video, anniversaries and a shared calendar for moments. It suits long-distance couples who want somewhere that is just theirs. It is free with ads, with paid upgrades.

Good for
Couples, often long distance, who want a private chat and photo space just for the two of them.
Not for
Running a household. Its calendar is for moments and anniversaries, not chores.
Cost for two
Free with ads and in-app purchases. The App Store lists several Plus prices, so see site.

Guided programs

Guided programs teach relationship skills through lessons and exercises. They can be useful, but they are not a replacement for a licensed therapist. If there is abuse, fear or a crisis in your relationship, please contact a professional or a local hotline, and see our safety page.

Lasting

Lasting is a self-guided relationship program from a Talkspace company, with sessions you work through on your own schedule. The App Store says Premium unlocks the app for two users. As of our check the iOS app was last updated in February 2025, so confirm it is current before you subscribe.

Good for
Couples who want structured lessons and exercises to work through at their own pace.
Not for
Anyone who needs a therapist. A self-guided program is not therapy with a licensed professional.
Cost for two
7-day free trial. The App Store says Premium unlocks the app for two users and lists several prices, so see site. The iOS app was last updated in February 2025 as of our check.

Checked September 30, 2026: getlasting.com, App Store listing.

Tiptoe is not therapy either, and it does not claim to fix a relationship. Its weekly check-in is a practical meeting about the week, which we explain in Tiptoe is not therapy.

Privacy checklist before you both sign up

A couples app holds data about two people, and only one of you is usually doing the research. Before you invite your partner, check these together:

  1. What your partner sees. Which items are shared by default, and which can stay private, such as gift ideas.
  2. Bank linking. Whether the app asks for bank accounts, and whether you both want that.
  3. Location. Whether it shares location, and whether you can switch it off completely.
  4. AI features. Whether your entries are processed by AI, and whether both of you have to agree first.
  5. Leaving. What happens to shared data if one of you deletes an account or the relationship ends.
  6. Cost for two. Whether one subscription covers both of you, and how to cancel.

One useful rule

If either of you would not be comfortable with the other reading everything in the app, choose a different app or keep that part private.

Our couples app checklist has the full list, including what to agree on before you add your first task.

Questions couples ask

What is the best app for couples?
It depends on the job. For running a shared life, use a planner such as Tiptoe or Cupla. For splitting costs, use Splitwise. For seeing money together, use Honeydue. For daily conversation, use Paired or Agapé. Most couples need one planner and, at most, one other app.
Which couples apps cover both partners with one subscription?
As of our check, Tiptoe is free for both partners and one Pro subscription covers both, Cupla says Premium is one subscription per couple, Paired shares Premium with your paired partner, Lasting says Premium unlocks two users, and one of Splitwise's annual Pro plans can be used by two people. Cozi's upgrade covers the family.
Is there a couples app without location tracking?
Yes. Tiptoe does not track location or link bank accounts. Many couples apps do not require location, but some family organizers, such as FamilyWall, include real-time location as a feature. Check each app's privacy label in the App Store before you both sign up.
What is the best couples app for chores?
For chores between two adults, pick an app where each recurring job has one owner. Tiptoe does that alongside a weekly check-in. Tody and Homsy are strong cleaning-focused options. Our best chore apps for couples page compares nine of them on cost for two and planning.
Are couples apps worth paying for?
Pay only if both of you use it every week. A free calendar or shared list is enough for many couples. Paid apps earn their cost when they take a real job off one person, such as remembering every recurring chore, and when one subscription covers both of you.
What is the best app for long-distance couples?
For staying close, Between offers a private chat and photo space, and Paired or Agapé give you a daily question to answer apart. For visits and plans, a shared calendar such as Google Calendar or Cupla helps. Tiptoe adds a weekly check-in you can do over a call.

Fewer reminders. Clear owners.

Free for both of you Pro is $9.99/month. No card needed. Your first 30 tasks and chores are free.
