A plain, specific opening to a difficult conversation that describes the issue and request without attacking the other person's character.

What it looks like at home

Try: ‘The wet towel was on the bed again. Could we choose a place to hang it?’ Use your own words and leave room to hear the answer.

This describes a way to begin ordinary disagreement. It is not a way to make fear, threats, or controlling behavior safe.
